Horses are among the most beautiful animals in the world. Learn about their lives

A horse is the common name of a species belonging to the Equidae family. This group is made up of three wild mammals: zebras, donkeys, and horses. Horses are currently found both in the wild and in the domestic state, being used both for agricultural activities and competitions such as races or exhibitions.

The physical characteristic that distinguishes the horse is that it only has one finger on each of its limbs. For this reason, they are among the animal's considered perissodactyls, such as rhinos and tapirs. Horses are animals with great resistance, with long legs and great strength that help them run up to 50 kilometers per hour for several minutes, helping them escape from many of their natural predators when they are in the wild.

Another of the physical characteristics that stand out in these animals in addition to their strong legs, is having an elongated snout that helps them breathe better while they are running

They have large black eyes, which help them to see everything around them to flee if necessary, as well as the ears that are on the top of the head and that can turn so much forward and backward, being able to hear everything. They have short hair that covers their entire body, and very fine skin.

The only place that has a longer coat is their manes, which usually begin between the ears and end on the shoulders of these animals. Also, the tail will be very long and with a smooth and beautiful coat.

There are many breeds of horses, among which the Arab and Andalusian or Spanish breeds are the most beloved, as they are very resistant animals, but also of unparalleled beauty.

How much do horses weigh?

The average weight of the horses will be very distributed and the breed we are talking about should be observed first since there is a great variety between the different horses.

Some animals are only going to reach 400 kilos, being very small horses, while others taller and that is usually used for agriculture or traction work, can weigh up to a ton since they have a strong and resistant body.

Where horses live

It can be said that horses in the wild are becoming less common since many people capture them to tame them and to help them in different tasks in the field. Those that are in the wild can be found as long as we see one or another species since for example, Mustang horses will only be located in the United States, while Andalusian horses, in this region of Spain.

When they live in captivity, these horses need places called stables that must be of a size, large enough so that they can walk, since if they are small, they are in danger of becoming ill.

Horses are herbivorous animals, their main food being grass, when it is in the middle of the field, while if it is domesticated it will be based on hay. For the animals that are in stables, knowing what the horses eat and what is best for them is vital since different supplements improve their diet and that give them many more vitamins and mineral salts that make their muscles stronger. As well as their tendons and joints, which tend to suffer a lot after all their work

The horse when it is in the field will select the freshest shoots of grass, so it will walk looking for food, something that it will do for several hours. When it is in a stable and it is taken out to give it food, it is always recommended that instead of putting the hay in one place, it spreads throughout the land, so that the horse moves in search of what it most wants. like.

How horses are born

Horses reach sexual maturity at an age of two years, for both the male and the female. These animals do not have sexual dimorphism, something that occurs in many species, but not in the horse. When males detect that the female is in heat, they will approach her, jump and make noises for her to choose them.

Once copulation has been carried out and the mare has become pregnant, it will take about a year of gestation in which usually they will only have one foal, and sometimes two. These little horses will be with their mother for several months, who will nurse them and then feed independently.
